Reasonable Adjustments

Purpose

To ensure fair access to oral assessments by offering reasonable adjustments that reduce barriers without compromising academic integrity.

Available adjustments (can be permanent per student)

• Extra time: 25%, 50%, or 100% added to prep and record durations
• Pause/Resume during recording
• Re-recording: configurable budget of attempts across the entire viva (up to 20)
• Typing mode (text instead of audio when appropriate)
• Camera not required (exemption)
• Multilingual accommodations with translation for instructor review

Student preferences (comfort and readability)

• High contrast mode
• Larger buttons
• Keyboard shortcuts
• Focus indicators
• Hide timer (reduce anxiety)
• Question text-to-speech on/off
• Noise suppression
• Reduced motion (respects system preference)

Requesting and approving adjustments

• Students request through their institution or instructor; approvals are made by the institution/instructor, not VivaEdu Ltd.
• Instructors can set permanent adjustments across vivas or per assignment.
• Students may set preferences; instructors can also set them on the student’s behalf.

How to request (what to include)

• Institution/class, LMS course link, student identifier (LMS ID)
• The viva/assignment and the specific adjustment(s) requested
• Any institutional documentation if required

Idea for a new accommodation for you or a student? Timeframes:

Will acknowledge within 1 day; implementation of an a new feature within 3 days (often sooner for smaller, configurable adjustments).

Appeals

If an accommodation request is declined or insufficient, appeal to your institution. We will support alternatives. You may send a message to jex@vivaedu.co.uk.

No extra charges

There are no additional fees for accommodations or accessibility features, nor will there ever be.
